I received my formal training in negotiation and mediation at the Harvard Law School Program of Instruction for Lawyers and the Center for Dispute Settlement in Washington, D.C.
Working for The Negotiation Skills Company, where I am a Senior Trainer, I have trained negotiators in the US, Canada, and Europe.
Judges have appointed me to serve in various cases as a Discovery Master (to act in the place of the judge), Special Master (to obtain a certain result), or Guardian ad Litem (to investigate issues).
I am a trained mediator. In addition to my formal training at Harvard and the Center for Dispute Settlement, I am a member of the Massachusetts Council of Family Mediators and serve as a mediator or arbitrator for several organizations.
My Services
Over twenty-five years of experience in family and divorce law has given me concrete experience in the services I provide.
Clients and attorneys alike turn to me when they need insight, guidance, and perspective into the specific considerations of gay divorce and its outcome.
There are three approaches I consider in preparation for your divorce, each has its own strengths and weaknesses which I can help you match to your specific needs.
In Adversarial Divorce, I work to eliminate the need for trial by seeking agreement with your wife's lawyer and negotiating a reasonable and beneficial divorce settlement. If a trial is necessary, I zealously represent and protect your interests at court.
As your Collaborative Divorce lawyer, I blend my years of experience as a trial lawyer, mediator, and negotiator to work with you, your wife, and her attorney to achieve resolution with the freedom of creative problem solving and the intention of avoiding a trial.
In Divorce Mediation, I put my experience to work to help you and your spouse reach agreement and avoid the discomfort of an adversarial approach so that you may get on with the rest of your lives.
To compare and contrast the three divorce approaches, see The Three Approaches to Divorce.
Even when two parties have reached an impasse, through adversarial, collaborative, or mediation divorce, using an "arbitrator" can still avoid the bureaucracy, expense, and publicity of a trial. For more information on my arbitration services in this area, see Divorce Arbitration.
